Rok-It Gauges: Efficient Bore Measurement with Practical Precision
Rok-It gauges offer a practical and highly efficient approach to bore inspection, combining the simplicity of traditional Go/No-Go gauging with a design that enhances usability and consistency in real-world applications.
Lightweight and easy to handle, Rok-It gauges are designed to deliver fast, reliable results particularly in production environments where speed and repeatability are essential.

Simplicity at their core
Rok-It gauges operate as simple Go/No-Go indication gauges. However, their plate-based design with spherically formed ends sets them apart from conventional plug gauges. This spherical form allows the gauge to be presented to a bore at virtually any angle, removing the need for precise alignment. Once inserted, the gauge is rocked over centre to check size: If the Go end rocks over centre, the bore meets the lower limit, If the No-Go end stops, the upper limit has not been exceeded.
This simple rocking action provides a clear, immediate result, significantly reducing gauging time while maintaining confidence in the measurement and can be completed during an assembly process or indeed whilst a component is still in a CNC machine spindle.
They are also used very efficiently during a routine maintenance, component or assembly rebuilds / refurbishments where seals and bearings may have been removed pending inspection before replacement.
Enhanced Functionality in bore Inspection
Rok-It gauges can identify a range of common bore conditions, including, oversize, barrelling, ovality or taper within blind bores, recessed bores or deep bores. Their ability to assess these variations makes them particularly useful in applications where traditional plug gauges may be less effective or CMM inspections not possible or time-consuming.
It is important to note, however, that Rok-It gauges are not designed to assess bore straightness or cylindricity, and should be used as part of a broader inspection strategy which may require some additional feature gauges where required.
The Rok-It gauge has a self-aligning design due to the spherical form which supports consistent results. Unlike conventional gauges that may require the operator to “search” for the high point within a bore, Rok-It gauges provide a quick and positive read-out, even when used at an angle to the workpiece. This reduces operator influence and improves consistency across inspections.
Reduced Wear and Extended Gauge Life is a common benefit when using Rok-It gauges in high-use environments, particularly with traditional plug gauges that rely on a sliding action within the bore which creates more wear. Rok-It gauges address this through their rocking motion due to less contact area, reducing friction and lowering wear rates over time. This contributes to improved gauge longevity and more stable performance throughout the gauge’s working life.
Rok-It gauges are available in High-quality O1 tool steel with special hardened-face ends for increased durability. They can also be manufactured to suit product tolerances as tight as 2µm, making them suitable for a wide range of high precision engineering applications.
OGC’s Approach to Rok-It Gauges is focused on ensuring that Rok-It gauges are applied effectively within each customer’s process to the demands of the application and component GD&T. Understanding the application, tolerance requirements, and inspection conditions is key to delivering a solution that provides both accuracy and efficiency.
As Managing Director Russell Hicks explains: “Rok-It gauges are a great example of practical engineering — simple to use, but highly effective in the right application. At OGC, we’re always looking to support our customers with the right gauging solutions, and we’re here to help with any Rok-It gauge requirements you may have.”
Conclusion
Rok-It gauges provide a reliable, efficient alternative to traditional bore gauging methods, particularly where speed, ease of use, and reduced wear are priorities. By combining a simple Go/No-Go principle with a self-aligning, low-friction design, they offer a practical solution for maintaining consistency in bore measurement without unnecessary complexity.
