OGC July Highlights
As summer rolls on, July has been another busy and productive month here at OGC. From exciting customer visits and supplier collaborations to major delivery wins and continued demand across our gauge and calibration services, it's been a month full of progress.
We’re looking forward to sharing what we’ve been up to in this month’s newsletter.
Surprise Visit to BRP Machining:
July kicked off with an unexpected but memorable visit to none other than Roy O’Mara of BRP Machining Ltd, a true legend in the CNC machining world. BRP Machining operates alongside BRP Composites, both playing a vital role in the motorsport and hypercar sectors, supporting leading F1 teams and high-performance engineering projects.
Roy’s background is nothing short of remarkable, having been the lead CNC programmer and machinist under the legendary John Barnard, the F1 design pioneer credited with innovations like the composite monocoque chassis and semi-automatic gearbox. His early work helped shape Ferrari’s UK technology and development centre in the late 80s and early 90s. Roy was crafting complex multi-axis components long before 5-axis machining became standard in the sub-contract industry.
The visit was followed by a weekend at Donington Park for the World Superbike event, where we had the chance to watch some superb racing including Roy’s son, James O’Mara, compete in the Rokit Off BMW F900 Cup, a fantastic experience and an opportunity to reflect on motorsport engineering journeys past and present.
The visit sparked some exciting conversations around potential future collaborations, and it was a privilege to catch up with one of the greats in motorsport engineering and his talented bike racing son, James.
Blazing Hot Monday in F1 Valley:
A scorching Monday at Silverstone set the scene for some high-paced action, with the Alpine F1 car lighting up the track during hot laps ahead of the SPA Belgium GP. But the heat wasn’t just on the circuit; our team was also on the ground, making the most of face-to-face meetings with several F1 customers to lock in priorities ahead of the summer break.
While the teams may be preparing to pause for the summer break, we’re not lifting off the throttle. OGC continues to deliver critical gauge calibrations and push through high-priority spline and thread gauge orders to keep our motorsport partners fully supported throughout the season.
Commitment to Deliver – When Time Matters, We Move:
At OGC, delivering precision isn’t just about the final product; it’s about every step that gets us there. While we maintain a strategic stock of pre-hardened blanks, certain special gauge orders require soft blanks to be machined, then heat-treated, before moving into final production.
Our trusted heat-treatment partner, Wallwork, typically handles regular collections and deliveries. However, when timing gets tight, we don’t hesitate to step in. To keep production on track and save up to 1–3 days in the cycle, we’ll personally deliver and collect from Birmingham, ensuring no momentum is lost.
This hands-on approach allows us to get parts back into the workshop faster, whether for Wire EDM or Thread Grinding, so we can meet and often exceed customer deadlines.
Supplier Partnerships – Backing British Manufacturing with Double G:
While we manufacture many of our own blanks in-house, we also rely on trusted partners like Double G, a dependable CNC shop run by the father and son duo, Rob and Louis Greenway, representing three proud generations in the engineering game.
A recent drop-in from Russell gave him the chance to catch up, collect a batch of stock blanks, and see firsthand some of the new investments and improvements they’ve made. Russell was especially inspired by their patriotic pride in UK manufacturing. Rob and Louis continue to be fantastically supportive of our ever-evolving demands, helping us maintain the pace and precision our customers rely on. We might just need to get our own flag flying soon, because their passion is infectious.
Trailblazing Month – Exceeding Expectations Across the Board:
July proved to be a long but hugely rewarding month at OGC, one that exceeded expectations in both output and customer order intake.
We saw significant demand across all areas, with particularly strong growth in Thread Gauges, Spline Gauges, and our Re-Calibration services. The combination of customer trust, team performance, and operational momentum continues to drive us forward at full pace.
Here’s to building on that success as we head into August refreshed, focused, and ready for more.
